Not Cut Out to Be

Have you ever been told,
That you can't do something?
That you can't become what you want?
Or that you're not "cut out" for your dreams?

Have you ever been told,
That reaching for the stars,
Is a pointless game to play?

Have you ever been told,
That you try too hard,
For something you cannot achieve?

Have you ever been told,
That you're terrible,
At that which you aspire to do?

Not to draw attention to myself,
Or beg for pity,
But I have.

It's no fun.
It drags you down.
It makes you begin to believe,
That it's true;

That you can't.

That's one of the many problems
That I suffer with:
I'm constantly finding myself unable,
To hold onto what I believe,
What I want,
What I hope for.

And I just can't help but wonder,
After everything they told me...

What if they're right?
